While having studied classical music since he was 5 years old, Viktor has also been forming pop-, rock- and electronic musical groups since the age of 11. Viktor Orri Árnason is a musician of no specific genre.
Viktor is a multi instrumentalist, composer and conductor with academic degrees in music from Hochschule Für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and The Iceland Academy of the Arts.
Viktor has been playing the strings and doing arrangements for artists like Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Ólafur Arnalds, Dustin O’Halloran, Volker Bertelmann, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Nils Frahm, Agent Fresco, Bang Gang, President Bongo, East of my youth and Árstíðir.
Viktor entered the Icelandic music scene with his band Búdrýgindi, releasing 2 albums in 2002 and 2004 after winning the Battle of the Bands in Iceland in 2002. After joining the band Hjaltalín in 2006, Hjaltalín has released 3 LP’s, 1 film soundtrack and a live album with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra including Viktor’s pop-compositions and orchestral arrangements. The bands have been winners several times at the Icelandic Music Awards, including The best new artist 2002 (Búdrýgindi) and 2007 (Hjaltalín), The Album of the year 2009 (Terminal/Hjaltalín) and 2013 (Days of Gray/Hjaltalín).
